The objective of the institution is to impart quality education exclusively to the girl students who are deprived of higher education due to poverty and illiteracy. Since the establishment of the institution all the members of the Governing Body and employees are giving their best for spreading of knowledge and making the poor student’s dream come true. Most of the people of the surrounding villages of Gunupur are depending on agriculture and minor laborious jobs.

The least financial ability of the parents didn’t allow themselves to take steps for the higher education of their daughters. The parents were also very sensitive and hesitate to send their daughters to a Co-education institution. Our institution was established with a mission to eradicate the darkness in the field of higher education. Now, a fusion of urban and rural culture is found here which increases the culture. Our College is situated at a distance of 75 km from the district headquarter, Rayagada. Our Town, Gunupur is well connected by nearby cities i.e Berhampur, Rayagada, Bhubaneswar, Vishakhapatnam by state highways and railways. Some of the students of the neighbouring districts i.e Gajapati, Koraput and Kalahandi prefer our institution for higher education.

Being a Women’s College it aims at women empowerment through women education. Being located at the head quarter of the sub-division, Gunupur, the students are involved in various programmes conducted and sponsored by the Government. Since its establishment it has committed to impart quality education and its social commitment is to bring higher education to the grass root level and to provide higher education exclusively to the women students especially to the poor class. The college is affiliated to Berhampur University and recognised by the Government of Odisha. This is the one and only women’s college of the sub-division. The college at present has 4.62 acres of recorded land at its possession. The college has four class rooms, one office room, one computer room, one girls common room, one library-cum-reading room, one teachers common room and a toilet.

This institution has produced some meritious students who have proved themselves by securing a position in the best 10 of the University examinations and some of the students have got employment in different departments of Government of Odisha and in some private sectors. The management provides good infrastructure, qualified & competent staff to run the courses. Thayaramma women’s Degree College motivates the research activities, honours, outstanding achievement of staff & students.
